The paper LLM-Augmented Knowledge Base Construction For Root Cause Analysis tackles a problem that is not glamorous, but is expensive: how to extract knowledge from historical support tickets that helps engineers during the next outage. The authors submitted it to arXiv on January 9, 2026, and the page says it has been accepted for IEEE Access.

The context is network reliability. Even with redundancy and failover mechanisms, it is difficult to guarantee five nines, or 99.999% availability. When a network fails, root cause analysis, or RCA, has to separate symptoms from the actual source of the problem quickly.

The conclusion is deliberately bounded: the generated knowledge base provides an excellent starting point for accelerating RCA tasks and improving network resilience.

That wording matters. A "starting point" is not the same as an automated incident commander. Tickets are messy, full of abbreviations, local conventions, unfinished conclusions, and wrong assumptions. If an LLM turns them into a tidy knowledge base without review, the system may simply spread an old mistake faster.

The practical scenario is therefore human-in-the-loop. An LLM can summarize patterns, connect similar incidents, suggest likely causes, and extract preventive measures. An engineer still has to verify whether metrics, topology, configuration changes, and the incident timeline agree.
